Micron Precision Die Flexibility

Because the Micron Precision dies manufactured by Bullet Central are “Full Length Bushing Dies” they may have more than one use. As long as you stay in the same cartridge family, and start with the largest bullet/neck size, ie: 6.5 Creedmoor, you may be able to use the same resizing die for smaller neck sized cartridges in the same cartridge family, by simply changing the neck bushing in the die.

An example of this can be if you already own a Micron Precision 6.5 Creedmoor resizing die and you want to load/size for a 6mm Creedmoor, etc. Each brass and bullet combination may require a separate sized bushing, but once you have that part figured out, it becomes a simple changing of the bushing.

How do you figure that out? Well, if you are going to want to load your 6mm Creedmoor with Berger 105 Hybrids in Lapua “no neck turn” brass, you might get away with a .265 Micron Precision bushing. If you are loading Nosler 70 grain Ballistic Tips you might want a .266-.267, as the Noslers are a wee bit larger in diameter. 75 grain HHT Hammers will use the .265 bushing without complaint.

Some of this bushing size data you learn by patience, trial and error, but when you know you know.

The 6.5 Creedmoor case is now the parent case for the 25 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, and the 22 Creedmoor. All of the above are now SAAMI approved and are found on store shelves in factory loadings. So, if you have accumulated a pile of once fired brass from factory loadings in your 6mm Creedmoor, and are sick of going to the store for more, buy a bushing and start pulling the handle on your press with a repurposed Micron Precision Die.

Just remember to stay in the same cartridge family . . .

Note: After the 6.5 Creedmoor came out and things were hard to get, I was fireforming 22-250 brass in a Savage prefit bought in Minnesota. Lapua was making 22-250 brass and it didn’t even need trimming after fireforming to 6.5 Creedmoor!

Just a little “Back In The Day” story of necessity breeding innovation.
