The Importance of Steel

At the heart of every great barrel is the quality of steel used. At Krieger Barrels, we understand the significance of steel in barrel making. We go the extra mile by specifying our steel requirements to the mill, ensuring the highest quality standards.

Our meticulous metallurgical testing, spanning over three decades, allows us to perfect the steel composition and heat treatment. We don't offer multiple grades of steel; all our steel meets the same rigorous standards. Choose between stainless steel and chrome moly options, both held to the same high-quality benchmarks.

Single-Point Cut-Rifling

We take pride in the single-point cut-rifling process we use for all our barrels. While it may be the slowest method, it's also the most accurate. Each pass of the cutter removes just .0001 inch, ensuring nearly perfect concentricity between bore and groove, uniform twist rates, and minimal induced stress in the steel.

Our barrels undergo lapping after reaming to remove tool marks, followed by hand-lapping after rifling. This meticulous process results in superior finish quality, reducing fouling and simplifying cleaning. We go above and beyond, achieving finishes under 16 micro-inch in the bullet travel direction.
