Description
Krieger Barrel - Precision Single-Point Cut-Rifled Barrels
Krieger Barrels is the industry leader in manufacturing precision single-point cut-rifled barrels. Our commitment to excellence has made us the top choice for target shooters and custom rifle builders around the world. While we don't produce complete rifles, we specialize in crafting barrels to meet a wide range of needs, including competition rifles, high-grade sporting rifles, high-power service rifle competition, AR-10, AR-15, ammunition test barrels, and more.
Since our inception in 1982, Krieger Barrels has been dedicated to producing American-made barrels that meet the highest standards of quality. We have continuously supported and advanced shooting sports in the United States and across the globe.
The Steel: The Foundation of Excellence
Nothing is as crucial to the creation of a superior barrel as the quality of the steel used. At Krieger Barrels, we realized early on that we needed to set our own steel specifications, even if it meant higher costs. Each lot of steel undergoes rigorous heat testing to ensure compliance with our stringent requirements.
We conducted extensive metallurgical tests on both good and bad steel samples to determine the ideal molecular composition for barrel steel. Armed with this knowledge, we collaborated with the steel mill, metallurgists, and heat treaters to implement necessary changes. This ongoing process of refinement and testing has continued for over 30 years. We do not offer multiple grades of steel; all our steel meets the same uncompromising standards. We provide the option of stainless steel or chrome moly barrels, both held to identical quality standards from start to finish.
Single-Point Cut-Rifling: The Pinnacle of Accuracy
Krieger Barrels employs the single-point cut-rifling process for all our barrels. While it may be the slowest and oldest method, it is also the most accurate. This process removes approximately .0001 inch at each pass, requiring hundreds of passes to rifle a barrel. The result is near-perfect concentricity between bore and groove, a uniform twist rate, and no induced stress in the steel that would require relief later.
Our barrels are meticulously lapped after reaming to eliminate tool marks and then hand-lapped again post-rifling. Although correctly cut-rifled barrels don't necessarily need finishing lapping, we choose to do so for slight improvement in surface finish. The finish is now aligned with the bullet's travel direction, reducing fouling and simplifying cleaning. This meticulous process takes more time, but it results in superior barrels. Our finish lapping achieves finishes under 16 micro-inches in the direction of bullet travel, far exceeding the government's requirement of 32 micro-inches for M-14 National Match barrels.
