Our rigorous process includes setting our steel specifications, conducting comprehensive metallurgical tests on various steel samples, and collaborating closely with steel mill representatives, metallurgists, and heat treaters. We take pride in maintaining stringent standards for our steel, offering it in either stainless steel or chrome moly options, with both variants adhering to the same exacting quality standards from the initial steel mill quality to the final inspection of dimensions and finish.

Single-Point Cut Rifling

Our commitment to precision extends to our barrel rifling process. While our machines are state-of-the-art, we adhere to the time-tested single-point cut-rifling method, known for its unparalleled accuracy. This painstaking process involves removing an astonishingly minute .0001 inch (1 ten-thousandth of an inch) per pass, necessitating several hundred passes to rifle a barrel. The result is almost perfect concentricity between the bore and groove, a highly uniform twist rate, and no induced stress into the steel.

Notably, we refrain from any straightening of our barrels, as this would reintroduce stress into the steel. After reaming, our barrels undergo meticulous hand-lapping to eliminate tool marks. While it's true that a correctly cut-rifled barrel need not undergo finish lapping for uniformity of dimensions, we embrace this additional step for a slightly improved finish. The finish's orientation in the direction of bullet travel reduces fouling and eases cleaning, elevating the overall barrel quality.

Our commitment to excellence in rifling is evident as we lap our barrels to finishes under 16 micro-inch in the bullet travel direction, a superior benchmark compared to the government's requirement of a 32 micro-inch finish for M-14 National Match barrels.
