2. Measurement of Neck Wall Thickness: Measure the neck wall thickness of cartridge cases using a ball-type or tubing micrometer. Double this measurement and add the bullet diameter to calculate the neck diameter of a loaded cartridge. Subtract 0.001 inches from this figure to determine the ideal bushing size.

While the first method is recommended for accuracy, the second method, involving a ball micrometer, can also be used but is considered less desirable due to its cost and potential difficulty in consistent readings.
