The Steel

Nothing is more crucial in barrel making than the quality of the steel used. At Krieger Barrels, we take this seriously. We have our own specifications for steel, ensuring it meets our strict requirements. Each batch of steel undergoes meticulous heat testing to guarantee compliance. For over 30 years, we've continuously tested and perfected the steel composition and heat treatment process, providing barrels of unwavering quality. We offer our barrels in both stainless steel and chrome moly, both held to the same high standards.

Single-Point Cut-Rifling

Our barrels are rifled using the single-point cut-rifling process, a method known for its precision and accuracy. Although it's a slower process, it's also the most accurate. The cutter removes approximately .0001 inch with each pass, ensuring near-perfect concentricity between bore and groove, a uniform twist rate, and minimal induced stress in the steel. We never straighten our barrels as it would reintroduce stress. After reaming, our barrels are hand-lapped to remove tool marks and then hand-lapped again after rifling. Finish lapping improves the finish and reduces fouling, making cleaning easier. We're committed to producing barrels of the highest quality and performance.
