Lakes Country PRC 2026 Regional Qualifier

Match Director Extraordinaire Darrick Davidson did it again. At the Rush Lake range he put on a match that went as seamlessly as any match can go. He was as everywhere as anyone can be.

Starting on time and ending in good time, a good time was had by all.

Stage one had the shortest and longest ranges, at 300 yards and 900. I can do that, but the Diamond at 498 - I HATE DIAMONDS! But that's a personal problem as you well know.

There were more 12 round stages in this match than I've run into for a long time, and it's important to have 12 rounds loaded into your Gray Ops 12 round 308/6.5 Creedmoor mag. If you only have 9 in the mag, you can leave your rifle and RUN to your gear to grab three more, and RUN back to try some more - they say.

Reviewing the possible injury risk of RUNNING, I opted out, sucked it up, and quit early. Oversights must be overcome by stoicism, or just run your mouth loudly/repeatedly about being stupid, slow, blind, etc., until you get it outta yer system. A combination thereof works, too.

Heck, by the time I get my rifle put away and get back to my gear, I forget I forgot . . .

I've hated tank traps since I misplaced my first bag on one. But I've determined that even I can learn to run them like I see everyone else running them. Practice bag placement. That'll help. Don't run from it, or "just get it over with".

I was shooting, though. So it was still fun.

Here's what else is fun for me at every PRS match I've ever been at: I get a serious lift by watching shooters perform well, whether they're new, not so new, or putting in the actual work it takes to excel/get better.

No naming names. None. Ever . . . I have a friend, yeah, yeah, yeah I got a friend! Anyway, he set out to attain a certain level this year. It's been a privilege to watch his progress from frustration to victory, in reaching his goals. His ascent has been steady and certain in 2026, and on Saturday he finally finished with the hit percentage he'd been reaching for.

I can only imagine how that makes a guy feel, but it's a Les'on to me that with the right effort, moving on up is a possibility when you do what that takes.
