Retro Open Rifle
Sliding down the hallway, through the door it fell prostrate on my table, just inside the door. Dang near light enough to be a sho ‘nuff hunting rifle, it was built for/as a PRS Open competition gun, back in the day.
It reminded me of a conversation I had with Morgun King this spring. We were talking about the guns that we used when we started. Like this light little feller at 15.4 pounds.
Josh Halligan once handed me his 17 pound Master Piece Arms chassis-ed 6mmX47 Lapua rifle, while cautioning, “Careful, it’s a little heavy.” That was the day before I went home and slammed lead weights in and around my 6.5 Creedmoor to more better anchor itself to any and all barricades I might throw it at.
Today I shoot a 22.5 pound straight BR, but have hefted 30 pound Creedmoors and one 35 pound 308. This svelte little number almost makes it into the Sportsman Class, except it’s a 6.5X47 Lapua.
Contributing to it’s weight:
Big Horn Arms Origin action
Bixn Andy TacSport Pro
Gator Grip Trigger Shoe
Krieger 27.5” Barrel
Piercision 3 Port Muzzle Brake
Nightforce ATACR F1 7-35X56 Scope
Nightforce 34mm rings
McMillan Stock
KMW Bottom Metal
